Stanwell is one and seven tenths of a mile from Heathrow. Five minutes on Bedfont Road and you are at the airport. That makes it one of the closest places in the country to a major international hub, and it changes what a taxi booking here is actually about.
When the journey is five minutes long, nobody is worrying about mileage. What people worry about — rightly — is whether the car turns up at half past four in the morning, whether it is big enough for the cases, and whether the price they were told is the price they pay. This page answers all three, and sets out the one charge on the journey that belongs to the airport rather than to us.
| Measure | Stanwell to Heathrow |
|---|---|
| Road distance | 1.7 miles |
| Free-flowing drive time | about 5 minutes |
| Usual route | Bedfont Road |
| Terminals | all four, though Terminal 5 sits at the western end of the site |
Five minutes is genuinely five minutes at four in the morning. It is not five minutes at eight, when the perimeter roads carry the airport’s own traffic and every road around Stanwell feeds into it. And the terminal still matters even from this close: getting to Terminal 5 means going round rather than straight in, so a Terminal 5 booking is a longer job than a Terminal 3 one.
A five-minute journey tempts people into leaving five minutes. Then the car is two minutes late, or the drop-off zone is queueing, or there is a bag nobody mentioned, and a short run turns into a missed bag drop. We set the pickup against your check-in time rather than the drive time. From Stanwell that still means an early alarm, but it means arriving with the margin you actually need.
Clocktower Cars is a licensed private hire operator rather than a hackney carriage firm, which has two consequences:
Our operator licence is held as Epsom & Ewell Cars T/A Clocktower Cars, with drivers and vehicles licensed across Epsom and Ewell, Reigate and Banstead, Mole Valley, Elmbridge, Guildford, Waverley and Transport for London.
On a journey this short, distance is the smallest factor on the list. These are the ones that actually move the figure:
Night, very early morning, Sunday and bank holiday work costs more to staff. A 4am Heathrow departure is a more expensive hour of a driver’s day than a 10am one, and from Stanwell most airport work is exactly that hour.
The commonest thing that goes wrong on a short airport run. Four adults with four hold bags and four cabin bags do not fit in a saloon no matter what the seat count says. An estate takes four with real luggage; six and eight-seaters take groups. Count the bags when you book.
On an arrival we track the flight and set the pickup against the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one. There is a free grace period after landing for immigration and reclaim, and waiting beyond it is chargeable — a fair question to ask when you book.
Terminal and meeting point both change the job. A kerbside pickup and a meet and greet inside the terminal are not the same booking.
Child seats, step-free access, a pet, an extra pickup. Designed in at the booking stage, not improvised at the door. See our accessible taxi page for the ramped vehicles.
Heathrow charges £7 for each entry into a terminal drop-off zone, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5. Leaving and re-entering triggers it again, so one clean drop costs one entry and a return for a forgotten passport costs two. This is the airport’s charge, not ours. Blue Badge holders can claim a full discount even when they are not driving, by registering the registration number of the car bringing them. We give you that number when the car is allocated. More on accessible travel on our accessible taxi page.
Our cars carry no card terminals, so bring cash if you have not paid in advance. The pricing and payment methods page has the detail.
One and seven tenths of a mile, about five minutes on Bedfont Road in free-flowing conditions. It is one of the closest villages to the airport. In the morning peak the perimeter roads carry the airport’s own traffic, so allow longer, and a Terminal 5 run means going round rather than straight in.
We quote each journey rather than publish a figure, because on a run this short the hour of the day, the terminal and the vehicle your luggage needs move the price far more than the mileage does. Call 01372 747 747 with the flight and the bag count and you will have the price before you book.
Yes, and most Stanwell airport work is around that hour. It is booked in advance and the pickup is set against your check-in time rather than the five-minute drive, so the margin is built in.
Heathrow charges £7 for each entry into a terminal drop-off zone, every day of the year, at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, and re-entering charges again. It is the airport’s charge rather than ours and we tell you when it applies. Blue Badge holders can claim a full discount, registered against the vehicle registration, even when they are not driving.
Yes. The pickup is set against the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one, so a delay does not leave you without a car. A free grace period after landing covers immigration and baggage reclaim.
Yes. For five to eight passengers one larger vehicle is normally cheaper than two cars and always simpler at the terminal, because everyone arrives together. Give us the passenger count and the bag count separately.
Our cars do not carry card terminals. Pay by card when you book, by phone or online, or in cash to the driver at the end of the journey. Accounts are invoiced monthly.
Yes — Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and London City. All of them are long runs compared with Heathrow’s five minutes, they all involve the M25, and they need an earlier departure than people expect.
Yes. Short local work is booked and priced the same way: the station, an appointment, a school run, an evening out. Everything is pre-booked through the office.
Call 01372 747 747 with the flight, the terminal and the bag count and you will have the figure on the call, or send it through the online booking form.
