Towns closer to Gatwick — Reigate, Redhill — are an hour or more from Heathrow. Towns closer to Heathrow are a long way from Gatwick. Leatherhead is the point where you genuinely get to pick, and that is worth knowing when you are choosing a flight rather than after you have booked it.
The one caveat: it all depends on the M25. When junction 9 is clear these times hold comfortably. When it is not, Gatwick is usually the more forgiving of the two, because the M23 leg is short.

Leatherhead has direct trains to London Waterloo from around 44 minutes, and to Victoria from about 50. For most commuters the train is obviously right — the question is only how you get to the platform on a wet January morning, and how you get home when the last one has gone.

Our office is at Bookham station itself, so collections there are about as local as it gets. Fetcham sits between the two, which in practice means people use whichever station suits the train rather than the one that is nearest — worth saying which you want when you book.

Box Hill, Denbies, Polesden Lacey and the Surrey Hills are all within a few miles, and most of them are considerably better without a car — particularly Denbies. A booked return means somebody does not have to spend the afternoon being the designated driver.
