That two-an-hour frequency is the other half of the story: missing one costs you half an hour, so the station run is worth getting right.
Sandown Park has been a purpose-built racecourse since 1875, and it still empties the way racecourses do — several thousand people wanting to leave within the same twenty minutes. The platform gate handles the rail crowd; everyone else is on the roads around Portsmouth Road and the station approach at once.

Heathrow is the nearer airport and the more common booking from KT10. The odd part is the distance: the direct route is under eleven miles but takes about twenty-nine minutes, because it crosses the river and works through Hampton and Feltham. The M25 route is twice the distance and only about three minutes slower — and considerably more predictable at rush hour, which is why we normally take it for a flight.

The A307 runs as the High Street for about a mile, which makes the centre easy to reach and awkward to stop on. Parking is limited and the road is busy, so for a pickup a side street is almost always quicker than the High Street itself — tell us roughly where you will be standing and we will agree a spot.
Towards the A3 and Oxshott, with Claremont Landscape Garden — a National Trust property that once belonged to Princess Charlotte and Leopold I of Belgium — and Esher Place with its Lutyens-designed grass amphitheatre. Claremont has a car park but it fills on fine weekends and in half-term, which is when a car there and back beats a slow lap looking for a space.
North-east and south-east, both with their own stations and both close enough to Esher that we treat them as one operating area. Claygate in particular sits a fair walk from anywhere useful, which is why standing bookings cluster there.
