Stanwell Moor is three miles from Heathrow and about seven minutes along the Southern Perimeter Road. It is one of the few villages that sits immediately outside the airport boundary rather than near it, and that proximity cuts both ways: the journey is very short, and the roads around the village carry the airport’s own traffic whenever the airport is busy.
A village this small has no station and no bus service built around check-in times, so almost everything here is a booked car. This page covers the measured journey, what decides the price, and the charge that belongs to the airport rather than to us.
| Measure | Stanwell Moor to Heathrow |
|---|---|
| Road distance | 3.0 miles |
| Free-flowing drive time | about 7 minutes |
| Usual route | Southern Perimeter Road |
| Terminals | all four; Terminal 5 is the closest approach from here |
Seven minutes is accurate at four in the morning and optimistic at eight. The Southern Perimeter Road is the airport’s own artery, so when the airport is working hard, so is the road. The terminal matters too — Terminal 5 is the natural approach from this side, and a Terminal 2 or 3 run means going round.
Clocktower Cars is a licensed private hire operator, not a hackney carriage firm. We cannot be flagged down and we do not work ranks. In a village on the airport’s doorstep, where unbooked cars sometimes tout for work, that distinction is worth knowing: a booked journey has a named operator, a licensed driver and a record of who went where.
The operator licence is held as Epsom & Ewell Cars T/A Clocktower Cars, with drivers and vehicles licensed across Epsom and Ewell, Reigate and Banstead, Mole Valley, Elmbridge, Guildford, Waverley and Transport for London. Because the office takes the booking, the price is agreed before the car moves — a meter cannot do that, which is why a metered car caught in perimeter traffic costs you money and a booked one does not.
Night, very early morning, Sunday and bank holiday work costs more to staff. From Stanwell Moor almost all airport work falls in those hours, which on a three-mile journey is the biggest single factor in the figure.
Four adults with four hold bags and four cabin bags do not fit in a saloon. An estate takes four with real boot space; six and eight-seaters take groups. Ski bags, golf clubs, a pushchair, a dog crate — each needs declaring, because each changes which car is sent.
On an arrival the pickup is set against the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one, with a free grace period after landing for immigration and reclaim. Waiting beyond it is chargeable.
A kerbside pickup and a meet and greet inside the terminal are different bookings, and so are Terminal 5 and Terminal 3.
Child seats, step-free access, a wheelchair, a pet travelling. Designed into the booking rather than improvised at the door — see our accessible taxi page.
Heathrow charges £7 for each entry into a terminal drop-off zone, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, and re-entering triggers it again. This is the airport’s charge rather than a taxi firm’s, and we tell you when it applies. Source: Heathrow Airport — drop-off charge. Blue Badge holders can claim a full discount even when not driving, registered against the registration of the car bringing them.
Our cars carry no card terminals, so bring cash if you have not paid in advance. The pricing and payment methods page has the detail.
Three miles by road, about seven minutes along the Southern Perimeter Road. The village sits just outside the airport boundary, which is why the drive is so short and why the roads around it fill with airport traffic in the peaks.
We quote each journey rather than publish a figure. On a seven-minute run the hour of the day, the terminal and the vehicle your luggage needs matter far more than the mileage. Call 01372 747 747 with the flight and the bag count and you will have the price before you book.
Yes, and that is when most of this work happens. It is booked in advance and the pickup is set against your check-in time rather than the drive time.
Barely, and not for an airport run with luggage. The village has no station and the bus service is not built around check-in times. For anything with a hold bag or an early departure a booked car is the realistic option.

Yes. For five to eight passengers one larger vehicle is normally cheaper than two cars and simpler at the terminal. Give us the passenger count and the bag count separately.
Our cars do not carry card terminals. Pay by card when you book, by phone or online, or in cash to the driver. Accounts are invoiced monthly.
