Dorking is a Mole Valley market town where the A24 and the A25 cross at Deepdene, with Box Hill and Leith Hill on its doorstep and Gatwick closer than any other airport. Heathrow is further — 27.4 miles from Dorking station — but the M25 makes it about 35 minutes by road when measured, and unlike Gatwick there is no train that gets you there.
Clocktower Cars runs pre-booked airport transfers from Dorking, Pixham, Westhumble, North Holmwood and Brockham to all five London airports, with the price agreed before you travel. Mole Valley is one of the seven authorities our drivers and vehicles are licensed by. Call 01372 747 747 or book online. For local journeys around the town, see our Dorking taxi service page.
These figures were measured on 17 October 2026 from Dorking station (RH4 1TF), using the route and drive-time estimate Google Maps gave at the time. They are a guide: an early departure usually beats them, a weekday evening on the M25 will not.
| Airport | Distance | Typical drive | Main road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gatwick | 13.0 miles | about 26 minutes | A217 |
| Heathrow | 27.4 miles | about 35 minutes | M25 |
| London City | 49.6 miles | about 1 hour 9 minutes | M25 |
| Luton | 58.1 miles | about 1 hour 4 minutes | M25 |
| Stansted | 73.3 miles | about 1 hour 22 minutes | M25 |
Gatwick is 13.0 miles from Dorking but the route is on ordinary roads through Reigate and Horley, so it takes about 26 minutes. Heathrow is more than twice the distance and takes about 35, because almost all of it is the M25 from Leatherhead. If you are choosing between flights from the two airports, the drive is not the deciding factor it might appear on a map.
The same pattern shows on the longer runs: Luton is 8.5 miles further from Dorking than London City and about five minutes quicker, because the London City route ends in east London traffic. It is the plainest reason we quote each journey rather than publishing a rate per mile.
For Gatwick there is a real rail option: Great Western Railway services from Dorking Deepdene and Dorking West run to Gatwick Airport via Redhill. For Heathrow there is not. The trains from Dorking station run to Victoria via Sutton, to Waterloo via Wimbledon, and to Horsham — any rail route to Heathrow means going into London and back out. With luggage, children or an early start, a pre-booked car is usually the practical choice for both airports; for Heathrow it is the only direct one.
Clocktower Cars is a licensed private hire operator, not a hackney carriage firm. You cannot flag one of our cars down on the High Street or find it waiting on a rank; every journey is booked through the office in advance. That is what lets the office see the whole journey first — address, airport, terminal, luggage, time — and agree the price before the car moves. Our operator licence is held as Epsom & Ewell Cars T/A Clocktower Cars, with drivers and vehicles licensed across Epsom and Ewell, Reigate and Banstead, Mole Valley, Elmbridge, Guildford, Waverley and Transport for London.
The full reasoning is on what decides the cost of a taxi. For a Dorking airport run it comes down to these:
On fine weekends the roads around Box Hill and the A24 north of the town are busy with visitors. If you are flying on a summer weekend, mention it when you book and the office will allow for it.
Heathrow charges £7 for every entry into a terminal drop-off zone, at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, around the clock, and a second entry is charged again. Gatwick charges £10 for the first ten minutes, then £1 a minute up to twenty, with a £30 daily cap. Both are the airports’ charges, not ours. Blue Badge holders can claim a 100% discount at Heathrow if it is registered against the registration of the car carrying them, and are exempt at Gatwick — mention it when you book. Current Heathrow terms are on Heathrow’s drop-off charge page. Arrivals pick-ups do not use the drop-off zones.
If your journey starts a little closer to London, these pages carry their own measured times: Leatherhead to Heathrow (22.7 miles), Fetcham to Heathrow (23.9 miles), Ashtead to Heathrow (23.4 miles) and Bookham to Heathrow (25.9 miles). For Gatwick, see our Gatwick airport transfers page.
The car is matched to the booking: a saloon for up to four travelling light, an estate for four with real suitcases, an MPV for five or six, an eight-seater for a group, and executive cars on request. Child seats are fitted when you give ages and weights at booking. We confirm the vehicle’s capacity rather than a make or model. Clocktower Cars does not rent out vehicles — every booking comes with a licensed driver.
Pay by card when you book, in cash to the driver, or on a monthly invoiced business account. There is no card terminal in the vehicle; details on the pricing and payment methods page.
Heathrow is 27.4 miles from Dorking station, and the drive took about 35 minutes by the M25 when measured on 17 October 2026.
We quote every journey before you travel rather than publishing a fare list, because the price depends on the hour, the vehicle your luggage needs, the terminal and whether it is a drop-off or a pick-up. Call 01372 747 747 or use the online booking form and you will have the figure before you commit.

No direct one. Trains from Dorking station run to Victoria, Waterloo and Horsham, so reaching Heathrow by rail means going into London and back out. Dorking Deepdene and Dorking West do have Great Western Railway services to Gatwick via Redhill.
