Bookham is twenty-five and nine tenths of a mile from Heathrow, about thirty-seven minutes when the roads are clear. Like most of this corner of Mole Valley the journey is essentially one road: up to the M25 at junction 9, then round to the airport. The distance is unremarkable; what matters is the motorway.
This page gives the measured route, what the M25 does to the timing, what decides the price of a booked car, and the charge on the journey that belongs to the airport rather than to us.
| Measure | Bookham to Heathrow |
|---|---|
| Road distance | 25.9 miles |
| Free-flowing drive time | about 37 minutes |
| Route | M25 from junction 9 to the airport spur |
| Rail | no direct service — changes with luggage |
| Terminals | all four; Terminal 5 is the first you reach from the M25 |
Thirty-seven minutes assumes the motorway is moving. Between junctions 9 and 13 it is among the most heavily used stretches in Britain and the one most often subject to overnight closures. In the morning peak it can add half as long again, and when it is genuinely blocked there is no quick alternative — the lines through Chessington and the A3, or across to Esher, are slower on a clear day and quicker on a bad one. A driver who works this corridor makes that call before setting off rather than from the back of a queue.
Coming up the M25 you reach Terminal 5 first; the central terminals and Terminal 4 mean carrying on round the site. A few minutes, which on a tight bag drop is the whole question — so the terminal goes on the booking.
Clocktower Cars is a licensed private hire operator rather than a hackney carriage firm, so every journey comes through the office as a booking — we cannot be flagged down and we do not work ranks. Because the office sees the whole journey first it can price it up front, so a bad morning on the M25 is our problem rather than an addition to your bill. A meter would keep earning the whole time you sat in it.
Bookham is in Mole Valley, one of the seven authorities our drivers and vehicles are licensed across, with Epsom and Ewell, Reigate and Banstead, Elmbridge, Guildford, Waverley and Transport for London. We run an office in Bookham, and the operator licence is held as Epsom & Ewell Cars T/A Clocktower Cars.
Nights, very early mornings, Sundays and public holidays cost more to staff, and most airport work from Bookham leaves before six — which is also when the M25 is at its best, so the early start buys a quicker run as well as a safer margin.
Four adults with four hold bags and four cabin bags do not fit in a saloon. An estate takes four with real boot space and is the sensible default for a family holiday; six and eight-seaters take groups. Golf clubs, ski bags, a pushchair, a bike in a box, a dog crate — each changes which car is sent, so each needs declaring when you book.
On an arrival the pickup is set against the actual landing time, with a free grace period after landing for immigration and reclaim; waiting beyond it is chargeable.
Child seats, step-free access, a wheelchair, a pet travelling, an extra pickup in Fetcham or Effingham on the way — all cheaper designed in than improvised. See our accessible taxi page.
Heathrow charges £7 for each entry into a terminal drop-off zone, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, and re-entering triggers it again. It is the airport’s charge rather than a taxi firm’s, and we say when it applies. Source: Heathrow Airport — drop-off charge. Blue Badge holders can claim a full discount even when they are not driving, registered against the registration of the car bringing them.
Our cars do not carry card terminals, so bring cash if you have not paid in advance. The detail is on our pricing and payment methods page, and the reasoning behind quoting rather than publishing a rate card is in our guide to what actually decides a taxi price.
Twenty-five and nine tenths of a mile by road, about thirty-seven minutes in free-flowing traffic, joining the M25 at junction 9 and leaving at the airport spur.
Work back from your airline’s bag-drop deadline, add the thirty-seven minutes, then add a real margin for the M25. The stretch between junctions 9 and 13 is one of the busiest in the country and is often closed overnight for roadworks, so the margin is not optional.
It depends on the hour, the terminal, the vehicle your luggage needs and whether waiting or flight tracking is involved, so we quote each journey rather than publish a figure that would date. Call 01372 747 747 with the flight and the bag count.
No. Any rail route means at least one change, usually two, with your luggage. Bookham station is useful for London but not for Heathrow, which is why nearly all airport work from here is a booked car.
Yes. Bookham is one of our offices, and Bookham, Fetcham and Leatherhead are among the areas we cover most.
Heathrow charges £7 for each entry into a terminal drop-off zone, every day of the year, and re-entering charges again. That is the airport’s charge rather than ours. Blue Badge holders can claim a full discount, registered against the vehicle registration, even when they are not driving.

Yes. For five to eight passengers one larger vehicle is normally cheaper than two cars and always simpler at the terminal. Tell us the passenger count and the bag count separately.
