Datchet sits on the north bank of the Thames opposite Windsor, a Berkshire village of about five thousand people with an SL3 Slough postcode, a station on the Windsor line and, a few minutes up the road, the M4. That last fact is the one that matters for an airport run: Heathrow is 7.0 miles from Datchet station and the drive took about 13 minutes by the M4 when measured.
Clocktower Cars runs pre-booked taxis and minicabs from Datchet to all five London airports and on local journeys to Windsor, Slough and Eton, with the price agreed before you travel. Call 01372 747 747 or book online.
These figures were measured on 17 October 2026 from Datchet station (SL3 9ED), using the route and drive-time estimate Google Maps gave at the time. They are a guide rather than a guarantee — an early-morning run usually beats them.
| Airport | Distance | Typical drive | Main road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heathrow | 7.0 miles | about 13 minutes | M4 |
| Luton | 35.7 miles | about 41 minutes | M25 and M1 |
| Gatwick | 40.6 miles | about 47 minutes | M25 |
| London City | 63.2 miles | about 1 hour 14 minutes | M25 |
| Stansted | 64.6 miles | about 1 hour 7 minutes | M25 |
Gatwick is often assumed to be the obvious second airport. From Datchet it is not: Luton is five miles closer and about six minutes quicker, north up the M25 and M1 rather than round the south-west of the orbital. If a flight is available from both, it is worth comparing.
The same pattern shows further out. Stansted is 1.4 miles further from Datchet than London City and about seven minutes quicker, because one is motorway almost all the way and the other is not. It is why a price list built on mileage would be wrong for both, and why we quote each journey.
Measured the same day, by the same method:
| From Datchet station to | Distance | Typical drive | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windsor Castle | 1.8 miles | about 6 minutes | B470 |
| Slough station | 2.7 miles | about 10 minutes | B376 |
| Heathrow | 7.0 miles | about 13 minutes | M4 |
Datchet station is on the Windsor & Eton Riverside line, with trains to Waterloo taking around 55 minutes. It is a pleasant line into town and no use for Heathrow: reaching the airport by rail from Datchet means going to Slough for the Elizabeth line or into London and back out. By car it is thirteen minutes.
Clocktower Cars is a licensed private hire operator, not a hackney carriage firm, so you cannot hail one of our cars in the village or find it on a rank. Every journey is booked in advance through the office, which is what lets us agree the price before the car moves. Our operator licence is held as Epsom & Ewell Cars T/A Clocktower Cars, with drivers and vehicles licensed across Epsom and Ewell, Reigate and Banstead, Mole Valley, Elmbridge, Guildford, Waverley and Transport for London. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is not one of those authorities, which is precisely why Datchet journeys are pre-booked: the booking is taken at one of our licensed offices and the car comes out to you.
We quote each journey rather than publish a tariff; the reasoning is set out in full on what decides the cost of a taxi.
Thirteen minutes on the M4 at 5am can be a good deal longer at 5pm on a Friday. Night work, bank holidays and the Christmas period are priced differently because covering them costs differently.
Four people with four large cases need an estate, five or six need an MPV, and a group of eight with full luggage may need two cars. Larger groups are covered on eight-seater and large taxis to Heathrow.
Outbound is a drive to the kerb. Coming home, the driver tracks your flight, works to the actual landing time and meets you in arrivals or at a designated pick-up area, which involves parking and waiting — so the return is quoted as its own journey.
Datchet sits between Windsor and the M4, and a big day at Windsor or at Ascot loads the local roads. If you are flying on one of those days, mention it when you book and the office will allow for it.
Heathrow charges £7 for every entry into a terminal drop-off zone, at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, around the clock, and a second entry is charged again. It is the airport’s charge, not a Clocktower Cars fee. Blue Badge holders can claim a 100% discount, including as passengers, if the badge is registered against the registration of the car carrying them — tell the office when you book. Current terms are on Heathrow’s drop-off charge page. Arrivals pick-ups do not use the drop-off zone.
The car is matched to the booking: a saloon for up to four travelling light, an estate for four with real suitcases, an MPV for five or six, an eight-seater for a group, and executive cars on request. Child seats are fitted when you give ages and weights at booking, and assistance dogs travel at no extra charge. We confirm the vehicle’s capacity rather than a make or model. Clocktower Cars is not a car hire company and does not rent out vehicles — every booking comes with a licensed driver.
Pay by card when you book, in cash to the driver, or on a monthly invoiced business account. There is no card terminal in the vehicle; details on the pricing and payment methods page.

We quote every journey before you travel rather than publishing a fare list, because the price depends on the hour, the vehicle your luggage needs, the terminal and whether it is a drop-off or a pick-up. Call 01372 747 747 or use the online booking form and you will have the figure before you commit.
