Hayes is three and eight tenths of a mile from Heathrow, about eight minutes via Stockley Road and the A408. Hayes and Harlington station is also on the Elizabeth line with a direct service to the airport, which makes this one of the few places near Heathrow where the honest answer is sometimes “take the train”.
So this page does two things. It tells you when the train is the better choice and when it is not. And for the journeys where a car is the right answer, it sets out the measured route, what decides the price, and the drop-off charge that belongs to the airport rather than to us.
| Measure | Hayes to Heathrow |
|---|---|
| Road distance | 3.8 miles |
| Free-flowing drive time | about 8 minutes |
| Usual route | Stockley Road / A408 |
| Rail | Hayes and Harlington station, Elizabeth line, direct to the airport |
| Terminals | all four; the central terminals are the natural approach |
Eight minutes is a small-hours figure. In the peaks Stockley Road carries airport traffic alongside the Uxbridge and Southall commute, and the A408 slip roads back up. The terminal matters too: from the north the central terminals are a straight run and Terminal 5 means going round.
The general version of that reasoning sits in our guide to what actually decides a taxi price.
Hayes is in the London Borough of Hillingdon, so private hire work here sits under Transport for London. Our drivers and vehicles are licensed by TfL among seven authorities, alongside Epsom and Ewell, Reigate and Banstead, Mole Valley, Elmbridge, Guildford and Waverley, and the operator licence is held as Epsom & Ewell Cars T/A Clocktower Cars.
Every journey is pre-booked through the office — we are a private hire operator, so we cannot be flagged down and we do not work ranks. The price is agreed before the car moves, which a meter cannot do.
Nights, very early mornings, Sundays and bank holidays cost more to staff, and the journeys people book a car for here are overwhelmingly the ones the trains do not cover.
Four adults with four hold bags and four cabin bags will not fit a saloon. An estate takes four with real boot space; six and eight-seaters take groups. Declare the awkward items, because each one changes the car.
On an arrival the pickup is set against the actual landing time, with a free grace period after landing for immigration and reclaim; waiting beyond it is chargeable.
Kerbside and meet-and-greet inside the terminal are different bookings, as are Terminal 2 and Terminal 5.
Child seats, step-free access, a wheelchair, a pet travelling. Designed in rather than improvised — see our accessible taxi page.
Heathrow charges £7 for each entry into a terminal drop-off zone, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, and re-entering triggers it again. It is the airport’s charge rather than a taxi firm’s, and we tell you when it applies. Source: Heathrow Airport — drop-off charge. Blue Badge holders can claim a full discount even when they are not driving, registered against the registration of the car bringing them.
No card terminals in the cars, so bring cash if you have not paid in advance. The pricing and payment methods page has the detail.
Three and eight tenths of a mile by road, about eight minutes via Stockley Road and the A408. Hayes and Harlington station also has a direct Elizabeth line service to the airport, so for some journeys the train is a genuine alternative.
We quote each journey rather than publish a figure. On an eight-minute run the hour, the terminal and the vehicle your luggage needs decide the price far more than the mileage does. Call 01372 747 747 with the flight and the bag count.
For one person with a cabin bag in daylight, often yes — it is direct, cheap and frequent. It stops being the right answer with hold luggage, with more than one passenger, with a child, or for a check-in before the first services run. A booked car is door to door at any hour with the price agreed in advance.
Yes, and that is the hour most of this work happens, precisely because the trains do not. The pickup is set against your check-in time rather than the eight-minute drive.

Yes. The pickup is set against the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one, with a free grace period after landing for immigration and baggage reclaim.
Yes. For five to eight people one larger vehicle is usually cheaper than two cars and always simpler at the terminal. Give us the passenger count and the bag count separately and we will confirm what fits.
Our cars do not carry card terminals. Pay by card when you book, by phone or online, or in cash to the driver. Business accounts are invoiced monthly with your own references on each line.
