Stansted airport chauffeurs, booked in advance, from Surrey and south-west London. Clocktower Cars is a licensed private hire operator with twelve offices across Surrey and the London boroughs on its northern edge, and Stansted is the longest of the five airport runs we do. That length is exactly why it is worth booking a chauffeur rather than improvising: one car, one driver, one price agreed before you set off. Call 01372 747 747 or book online.
Stansted airport chauffeurs — the short answer
A chauffeur booking to Stansted is an executive car with one named, licensed driver, held for your journey. The driver meets you inside the terminal on an arrival, tracks the flight so a delay moves the pickup instead of costing you the car, loads the luggage, and bills to an account if you would rather not pay at the kerb. On a departure the car comes to your door at a time worked back from your check-in, not from an optimistic estimate of the M25.
People also search for this as Stansted chauffeur service, chauffeur service Stansted airport or simply Stansted chauffeur — and often as “Stanstead”, which is the spelling of the nearby village rather than the airport. All of them mean the same booking, and all of them are taken on the same number.
How far Stansted actually is from Surrey — and why that matters
Stansted is in Essex, north-east of London near Bishop’s Stortford. From our part of Surrey that means going round or through the capital, and the figures are worth seeing before you plan a departure.
| From | Route | Distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Epsom (Clock Tower, KT19 8BA) | M25 | 72.7 miles | about 1 hr 41 |
| Reigate (RH2) | M25, with the Dartford Crossing | 67.9 miles | about 1 hr 22 |
| Reigate (RH2) | M25 and M11, avoiding the crossing | 89.9 miles | about 1 hr 48 |
Two things fall out of that table. First, the shorter route goes over the Dartford Crossing, which is tolled, and the longer one does not — so distance alone tells you nothing useful about what a Stansted journey should cost. Second, a difference of twenty-two miles can be worth twenty-six minutes in the wrong direction. When we quote a Stansted run we quote the journey, including any crossing charge, rather than applying a rate per mile that would get it wrong both ways.
Meeting you at Stansted arrivals
Stansted has one passenger terminal, which makes the arrivals meet simpler than at Heathrow or Gatwick: there is only one hall to be in. Your driver parks, comes inside, and waits in arrivals with a name board. You do not walk to a car park, and you do not get a message telling you to.
We take your flight number when you book and track it. If the aircraft is two hours late at three in the morning, the booking moves with it. If you clear the hall quickly, the car is already there. Waiting time is included for the period we expect a normal arrival to take; anything beyond that is told to you rather than added quietly.
If you would rather be collected outside
Some travellers prefer the kerbside pickup — it is quicker when you have no checked bags. Say so when you book and the driver will text the pickup point on landing instead of coming inside. Both are the same booking at the same price; it is purely a preference.
Departures — when the car should collect you
Work backwards, and be honest about the M25. For a Stansted departure from Surrey we normally suggest leaving three and a half to four hours before a short-haul departure and four to four and a half before a long-haul one, which allows for the drive, the crossing or the M11 detour, and the airport’s own advice on arriving early. That is longer than people expect, and it is the single most common reason a Stansted flight gets missed from this part of the country.
If your flight is before about seven in the morning, the drive is the easy part — the roads are empty and the run can be forty minutes quicker than the table above suggests. We will say so when you book rather than charging you for an hour you do not need to be awake for.

- Account billing for firms and regular travellers
- DBS-checked drivers — see our drivers
Chauffeur-driven, not self-drive
Clocktower Cars does not rent cars out. A fair number of searches for chauffeur car hire are really looking for a rental desk, and Stansted has several. Every booking we take includes a professional driver, which is the point of it: on a journey this long the value is in not driving, not in the car.
Stansted by car or by train — the honest comparison
The train to Stansted from Surrey is not one journey, it is three: a local service into London, a cross-London leg to Liverpool Street, and then the Stansted Express. With a cabin bag and no deadline that is a perfectly reasonable way to travel, and for one person travelling in the middle of the day it will usually cost less than a car.
It stops being reasonable in the cases that describe most airport journeys: two or more people, where one car beats three sets of three tickets; checked luggage, because the cross-London leg with a case is the part nobody enjoys; a flight before the first connection runs or after the last one; and any arrival, because a delayed landing turns a planned train into a long wait. Those are the journeys a Stansted chauffeur is for, and we would rather say so than pretend the train does not exist.
Business travel to Stansted
Stansted carries a lot of short-haul business traffic to Europe, and the pattern we see is a very early outbound and a late inbound on the same day or the next. For a company that is two chauffeur bookings against a day of a senior person’s attention, which is usually the cheaper option by a wide margin.
Corporate accounts
Accounts are available to firms of any size and cover ordinary minicab work and executive chauffeur bookings on the same monthly invoice. Visiting clients can be collected at Stansted and billed to you without being asked for a card, which is the practical reason most of our accounts exist. See first class executive cabs for the executive service across Surrey and south London.
The cars we send to Stansted
Executive saloons and MPVs for chauffeur bookings; larger MPVs where the luggage, not the passenger count, is the constraint. On a run of seventy miles the boot matters as much as the badge, so tell us the number of cases as well as the number of people and we will send something that fits the first time. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available on the same journey and need to be asked for when you book.
What sets the price of a Stansted journey
Distance and drive time from your door; whether the route crosses the Dartford tolls or takes the longer M11 way round; the hour, because a four in the morning departure is a different job from a midday one; the vehicle class; the number of passengers and cases; and, on arrivals, how long the car is likely to wait. We quote all of that as one figure before you book. We do not publish a price list for Stansted because the honest range across the towns we cover is wide enough that any single number would be wrong for most people reading it.

Stansted chauffeur questions answered
Do you provide chauffeurs at Stansted Airport?
Yes. Clocktower Cars runs chauffeur-driven executive cars to and from Stansted Airport from Surrey and south-west London, 24 hours a day, booked in advance. The driver meets you inside the single passenger terminal on arrivals.
How long does it take to drive from Surrey to Stansted?
About 1 hour 41 minutes over 72.7 miles from Epsom on the M25, and about 1 hour 22 over 67.9 miles from Reigate using the Dartford Crossing. Avoiding the crossing from Reigate is 89.9 miles and about 1 hour 48. Early morning runs are often considerably quicker.
How early should the car collect me for a Stansted flight?
Three and a half to four hours before a short-haul departure, and four to four and a half before long-haul, allowing for the drive, the crossing or the M11 detour, and the airport’s own advice on arriving early.
Do you track flights into Stansted?
Yes. We take the flight number when you book and track it, so a delayed landing moves the pickup rather than costing you the booking. Waiting time for a normal arrival is included.
Is the Dartford Crossing charge included in the price?
Yes. Any crossing charge on the route is included in the figure we quote before you travel, so there is nothing to settle afterwards.
Is a Stansted chauffeur the same as car hire?
No. Clocktower Cars does not rent cars for self-drive. Every booking includes a licensed private hire driver, so a chauffeur booking is always a car with a driver.
Can I book a Stansted chauffeur by the hour?
Yes. Hourly bookings suit a day that begins or ends at the airport, or a group arriving on separate flights, because the car waits rather than being re-booked between journeys.
Can you take more than four passengers to Stansted?
Yes, with an MPV. Tell us the number of passengers and the number of cases when you book, because on a journey of this length luggage space is usually the real constraint.
Do you do Stansted journeys on account?
Yes. Corporate accounts cover ordinary minicab work and executive chauffeur bookings on one monthly invoice, so a visiting client is never asked to pay at the kerb.
Which Surrey towns do you collect from for Stansted?
All of them. The busiest are Epsom, Reigate, Godalming, North Cheam, Sutton, Guildford, Leatherhead, Dorking, Banstead and Bookham, each with its own local office number.
