Luton is further from Surrey than most people assume, and the drive is more about which road you join than how many miles you cover. Our Weybridge office is 44.3 miles and about 58 minutes from the terminal. Our Kingston office has a route that is only 39.4 miles — five miles shorter — and it takes 1 hour 22 minutes. Being nearer to Luton does not make you quicker to Luton.
Clocktower Cars runs cars to London Luton Airport from eleven offices across Surrey and south London. Fixed price quoted before you book, licensed drivers, flight tracking on arrivals, and a car from a local office rather than one dispatched across the M25 to reach you. Every distance and time below was measured route by route.
Taken to the terminal at LU2 9LY on 1 October 2026. Where a genuine alternative route exists, both are shown, because on a run this long the road matters more than the mileage.
| Office | Route | Distance | Typical drive | Average speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weybridge | M25 | 44.3 miles | about 58 min | about 46 mph |
| Weybridge | M25 and M1 | 44.3 miles | about 1 hr 6 min | about 40 mph |
| Reigate | M25 | 60.5 miles | about 1 hr 12 min | about 50 mph |
| Reigate | M25 and M1 | 61.1 miles | about 1 hr 16 min | about 48 mph |
| Epsom (head office) | M25 | 57.8 miles | about 1 hr 17 min | about 45 mph |
| Epsom | M25 and M1 | 57.1 miles | about 1 hr 18 min | about 44 mph |
| Kingston | M25 | 51.4 miles | about 1 hr 19 min | about 39 mph |
| Kingston | M1 | 39.4 miles | about 1 hr 22 min | about 29 mph |
From Kingston the M1 route is 39.4 miles and the M25 route is 51.4. The shorter one takes longer, because it spends its first half on urban roads at about 29 mph while the longer one is motorway at about 39. If you priced this journey on mileage you would reach the wrong answer by twelve miles.
Reigate is 60.5 miles from Luton and takes about 1 hour 12 minutes. Epsom is 57.8 miles away and takes about 1 hour 17. Reigate is 2.7 miles further and five minutes quicker, because it joins the M25 straight away and holds about 50 mph the whole way.
Weybridge sits on the M25, so a Luton job from there is 58 minutes door to terminal. It is also our quickest office to Heathrow at about 19 minutes. Proximity to the motorway, not to the airport, is what makes an airport run quick.
People ask us for Luton airport cars, a car to Luton airport, a Luton airport car service, a taxi to Luton airport, a cab to Luton, a Luton minicab. They are all the same thing: a pre-booked, fixed-price private hire journey with a licensed driver. We do not quote differently depending on the word you use.
Worth knowing in law: a hackney carriage or black cab can be hailed and runs on a meter, so you learn the fare at the end. A private hire car or minicab must be booked in advance and is quoted as a fixed price before you travel. We are a private hire operator, which on a 58-minute to 82-minute motorway run is exactly the structure you want. Our minicab versus black cab page explains it properly.
On a long airport run the biggest hidden cost is the car getting to you in the first place. A Luton car sent from Weybridge or Reigate is already on the right side of the M25. One dispatched from central London is doing a long empty leg before your journey even starts, and that sits in the price whether anyone itemises it or not. We have eleven offices, so the car that collects you is a local one. The branch locator shows which covers you.
Most enquiries reach us as a taxi to Luton airport, or just a taxi to Luton. That is this service. A Luton airport taxi from us is a pre-booked private hire car at a fixed price, which on a journey of 44 to 60 miles is the only sensible way to buy it — a metered Luton taxi exposes you to every delay on the M25, and there is no taxi rank in Surrey that will take you to Bedfordshire on a whim at three in the morning.
So whether you want a Luton taxi, a Luton minicab, a cab to Luton airport or a Luton airport car, you are asking for the same job and you will be quoted the same price. The words differ by habit and by where people grew up; the car, the driver and the fare do not.
A taxi from Luton works the same way with one addition: the flight number. Luton arrivals can be slow through the hall late at night, and a pre-booked Luton minicab with your flight tracked is considerably better than looking for a cab at midnight at the end of a delayed flight. Tell us the flight and the car is there when you are.
If you are weighing up two Luton taxi prices, make sure both quotes cover the same pickup address, the same vehicle size, the same arrival waiting allowance and airport entry charges. A Luton airport taxi quote that leaves any of those out is not cheaper, it is just missing pieces that reappear later.
Luton is refreshingly simple compared with Heathrow or Gatwick. It has a single two-storey passenger terminal, so there is no terminal to get wrong and no risk of being dropped at the wrong building. We take you to the terminal forecourt and that is the only one there is.
What does confuse people is the Luton DART, which opened to passengers on 10 March 2023. It is a people mover connecting the terminal to Luton Airport Parkway railway station. If you are coming by train you take the DART at the end; if you come by car with us, you do not need it at all. A handful of people search for taxis to Luton Airport Parkway rather than the airport — if that is genuinely where you want to go, say so, because it is a different destination.
London Luton Airport is in Bedfordshire and handled 16,735,894 passengers in 2024, making it the fourth-busiest airport serving London. easyJet UK, Jet2.com, Ryanair UK and Wizz Air UK all base aircraft there, which is why so many Luton departures are early-morning holiday flights. It has one runway, 07/25, 2,162 metres long.
This is the practical heart of a Luton booking. With four low-cost carriers based there, a great many Luton flights leave between 06:00 and 07:30, and the drive from Surrey is an hour or more even with clear roads.
Work backwards. A 06:30 departure wants you at the terminal around 04:30. From Epsom that is a pickup at about 03:10; from Weybridge about 03:30; from Kingston or Reigate about 03:05. Those are not comfortable times, and they are exactly why you want the journey settled in advance with a driver who has the job in a diary rather than a car you are hoping to find at 3am.
The upside of travelling at that hour is that the roads are empty and the journey runs at its quickest. Unsocial hours are priced into the quote, and so is the clear run — ask us for both an early and a later option if your flight gives you the choice.
Plenty of people search for a car from Luton rather than to it, and we run that leg constantly — Luton to Epsom, Luton to Ewell, Luton to Kingston, Luton to Sutton, Luton to Esher, Luton to Chessington, Luton to Banstead. The distance is the same as the outbound journey; what changes is that the start time belongs to an airline.
Give us the flight number when you book, not an expected landing time. We track the flight, so a two-hour delay does not mean a missed car or a second fare, and if you land early we already know. Your free waiting period starts when the aircraft lands.
Beyond the free waiting period, waiting is charged by the quarter hour, and we ring you before the clock starts rather than letting it run quietly.
We quote each Luton journey rather than publishing a fare table, and the measurement table above is the reason: 44.3 miles from Weybridge and 60.5 miles from Reigate are not the same job, and the quicker of the two is the longer one. Here is what the quote is built from.
Airport entry and drop-off charges are included in what we quote rather than added at the barrier. For a full explanation of how airport pricing works and how to compare two quotes properly, see what an airport taxi costs and what sets the price.
A genuinely lower Luton fare comes from travelling at an off-peak hour, being collected by the nearest office, taking one correctly sized car instead of two small ones, and splitting the fare between you. On a journey this long, four people sharing one fixed price is usually far better value than four train tickets plus the DART.
What to be careful of is a cheap-looking Luton taxi quote that excludes airport entry charges or arrival waiting time. That is not a cheaper journey, it is an incomplete one. When you compare two Luton airport taxi prices, check both cover the same address, the same car size and the same waiting allowance.
A single published price covering a whole town is too high for people at its near edge and too low for those at the far edge. The alternative — advertising the low number and adjusting upwards once a real address is known — is a hook rather than a price. We would rather give you one figure that holds, in under a minute, from your actual address.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Realistic luggage | Typical Luton use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon | Up to 4 | 2 large cases and 2 cabin bags | Couples, solo business travel |
| Estate | Up to 4 | 3 to 4 large cases | A family of four actually going away |
| MPV | Up to 6 | 4 to 5 large cases | Families, small groups, ski and golf bags |
| Eight-seater | Up to 8 | 8 cases | Group holidays, stag and hen trips, sports teams |
| Executive saloon | Up to 3 | 2 large cases | Business travel, client collections |
| Wheelchair accessible | Varies by vehicle | Varies | Ramped access, chair secured in the vehicle |
One larger car is nearly always cheaper than two smaller ones, and on a 60-mile motorway run it is also far less trouble than keeping two cars together. If there are more than four of you, ask about the MPV and the eight-seater before booking two saloons. We also run wheelchair accessible vehicles and pet friendly cars to Luton; both need allocating in advance, so mention it when you book.
Honestly, it depends, and the Luton rail link is decent. Luton Airport Parkway is served by Thameslink and East Midlands Railway, and journeys to London “can take as little as 22 minutes”. At the airport end you then take the Luton DART across to the terminal.
If your company sends people to Luton regularly, an account replaces repeated card payments with one monthly invoice, named cost centres, and bookings placed by a PA or EA without a card each time. It also removes the awkwardness of someone expensing a 3am airport run they did not choose. See our corporate chauffeur service and executive travel pages.
Every town we cover can be quoted for Luton, in both directions. Pick yours, or ring the nearest office.

More detail on particular Luton journeys and the questions that come up most.
From our offices it runs from 44.3 miles at Weybridge to 60.5 miles at Reigate, with drive times from about 58 minutes to about 1 hour 22. London Luton Airport is in Bedfordshire, north of London, so from Surrey it is an M25 run most of the way.
It depends where you start, and the range is genuinely wide because the distances are. We quote from your actual address, date, time, passenger count and luggage, and the figure we give is the figure you pay. Give us those details and you will have a price in under a minute.
There is only one. Luton has a single two-storey passenger terminal, so unlike Heathrow and Gatwick there is no terminal to get wrong.
It is a people mover connecting the terminal to Luton Airport Parkway railway station, open since 10 March 2023. If you travel by car with us you do not need it — we take you to the terminal itself. It only matters if you are arriving or leaving by train.
For a 06:30 departure, aiming to be at the terminal around 04:30: roughly 03:10 from Epsom, 03:30 from Weybridge, 03:05 from Kingston or Reigate. Tell us the flight time and we will work it back with you properly, with a sensible margin.
Yes, if you give us the flight number. The car moves with the flight, so a delay does not mean a missed pickup or a second booking, and your free waiting time starts when the aircraft lands.
Yes. Airport entry and drop-off charges are included in the quote rather than added at the barrier. If a competing quote does not mention them, ask.
Yes, and those are routes we run regularly, along with Luton to Ewell, Esher, Chessington and Banstead. The distances and times match the outbound journey. Book the return at the same time as the outbound if your dates are fixed.
Yes. An eight-seater carries eight passengers and eight cases, and on a run this long one vehicle is both cheaper and much simpler than two.
No, deliberately. A town-wide published price is wrong for everyone who is not exactly average, and quoting a low figure then adjusting later is not transparent. We quote per journey from your real address, and the figure holds.
Heathrow, from everywhere we cover — and usually by a wide margin. Weybridge to Heathrow is 12.2 miles and about 19 minutes against 44.3 miles and 58 minutes to Luton. If your airline flies from both and you have a genuine choice, ring us before booking the flight.
Yes to both. Card payment is available on every booking, and an account gives regular travellers one monthly invoice and bookings without a card each time.
Tell us where you are starting and when your flight leaves. You will get one fixed price from a licensed local operator with eleven offices across Surrey and south London.
